The Goon Line 035: Another Danny McBride profile

MISBEHAVIN'.

When I got this article via GQ’s The Must Read email the other day, I was convinced it was a reshare of a piece I had already read. Cliffs Notes: Danny McBride loves his life in Charleston, where he goofs off and makes funny shit with his friends. But I’m glad I kept reading, if only for the photo spread, because it was, in fact, a new profile.

Dead-eyed church bitch

I cannot help it: I love this guy and everything he makes. Kenny Powers is one of the funniest television characters to hit my screen in the last 20 years. I will never forget watching crying laughing through this Fred Simmons appearance on Conan. He might be the second-best part of This is the End (this is obviously the first). Every time McBride opens his mouth to play the exact same character, I die. I am staunchly anti- blockheaded white southern dude braggadocio and buffoonery, but goddamn if his (weirdly affectionate) sendups of them don’t make me lose my simple mind whenever I see him do one.

Anyway, this piece is a good read, and places a cool emphasis on how incredible it is to get to make the stuff you want to make with and for your friends. It just sounds like he has a whole lot of fun making a whole lot of money doing a whole lot of dumb shit. And if he’s not, then you can call me Shrek.
