The Goon Line 032: Asking Pittsburgh smokers the tough questions
The butts have it, jagoffs.
Beep beep beep ba deep, coming at you with an Aftergoon Edition today. LISTEN, SOMETIMES LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE INTERNET. (Very rarely, but sometimes.)
You probably know that I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, along with greats like Mr. Rogers, Billy Porter and the aforementioned Abby Lee Miller. I wonder if any of them participated in this incredibly scientific poll!
Anyway, someone created an… ashtray? to tabulate which of two local expressions were more popular among smokers. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. I would like to honor my heritage by using both of these terms way more frequently.
Apparently, there are (or were) more than one of these in the mix. Reminds me of these surveys I used to do at my place of work a decade-ish or so ago, when I’d hang new questions in a shared hallway each week. This is chilling, but I used to be even dumber than I am now.

It’s called employee engagement, look it up

Some were easy answers

Others, more contentious

This is how we sparked workplace discourse in the 2010s
There’s a “poll” feature in the paid version of Beehiiv, which I obviously do not use, so we’ll just use the honor system to agree that you’ll spend the rest of the day thinking about if you’d rather smoke a pack of Yinz Slims with the ghost of Joe DeNardo OR have two Primanti Brothers sandwiches for hands.
